Catalina loves Real Women
What is wrong with people?! Just today I was reading this post by Radical Vixen about a client of hers who insults her on a regular basis, the latest insult being “You know if you lost 10 pounds you’d look really tight.”
Wow, I couldn’t believe what I read. Just this morning a potential client of mine said, “You never told me that you are a BBW. I think you should disclose that.”
My response, “Well, I didn’t disclose that because I don’t see myself as a BBW. I am a size 8. A size 8 is only BBW in the modeling world.” (Vixen proudly states she is a size 9).
There is a reason why real women can’t live up to the ridiculous standard of beauty that our society has created. Watch the video below. You’ll see how, from start to finish, real women are manipulated (digitally and physically) to achieve the look you see on billboards.
Still, what ever happened to politeness and manners? The golden rule? Compassion? Empathy?

Ah the consistent pressure to be uber thin…isn’t it fun. It’s unbelievable, when I was at my smallest I had no breasts, no ass, nothing. My mother thought I had cancer. That was suppose to be my “ideal weight”. Add on 20 pounds to that and hallelujah boobs, ass, and a husband that enjoys not counting my ribs. Its unfortunate that in so much of the worlds we enjoy, the expectations are so distorted. Size 8 being big? Wow…I was a 10 feeling great and now pregnant looking forward to being a 10 again. Fantastic video.

Ava,
Your comments about having small breast, no ass resonates. For the first time in my life, people have called me “small-chested”. (It kind of hurt my feelings, actually… and it struck me as odd that someone felt they had the right to comment on my “chestiness”.) I once had a breast REDUCTION to go DOWN to a C. Now I’m barely maintaining my B. Yikes! I keep wondering if my ultimate goal of being 120 lbs. and a size 4 is what I really want. It’s reasonable. I’m only 5′4″ and look at any chart and you’ll see that 120 is right in the middle for a woman 5′4″. Still… at size 12, I was curvier, for sure.

120 was my way too damn skinny weight, and I’m only 5′4. I went from D cup to like you said barely a B. Yes I could fit into anything, I had that size 4, I thought it felt good but then realized that I didn’t like my body. A little filler is good on me. I like myself better and enjoy life a bit more not CONSTANTLY working out and watching calories. My body is not happy at 120 and likes to settle a bit higher. Thats what was nice though, it found where it wanted to be and just parked there without too much effort on my part.
I hope someday all shapes and sizes of healthy are seen as beautiful…but then again I’m a fan of women shaped more like me…they just feel nice ;)

Now Catalina, you are about so see the not-so-nice side of me…
If a man was stupid enough to actually say something like that to my face…I would probably pipe up with something along the lines of:
“Whilst on the subject of size, I’d hedge a bet that the dick on your forehead is bigger than the one in your pants…”
It really makes me wonder what people are thinking, if at all.
The weight issue is a tricky one - I’ve been down to a size 4 before, and I honestly looked horrible. Now I’m a healthy 6. But let me tell you, when I was thinner, people were equally as rude.
“Look at you, skinny bitch…”
I’m sorry, what?!?
One of these days people will realize that beauty is all about how you carry yourself. Confidence, personality, charm, wit.
Size is irrelevant, plain and simple.
(I like my girls curvy, so there!!!)
:D

WHAT THE FUCK.
A size 8 or 9 is now BBW? Ya Allah. Those of us who are a size 16, sometimes 18, who would consider ourselves rail thin and be proud to be so at a size 8, sure as heck have a LONG way to go.
Coincidentally, I’ve never had such comments made by a man (at least not to my face), whether the encounter was for work or for fun.

Wow, it never ceases to amaze me just how rude people can be! I don’t know who they think they are, but in what world is it not considered rude to insult a woman about her weight regardless of how much she weighs? Common decency and all that! This is a topic close to my heart - I recently started posting pics on my blog and I was worried people would be nasty about my body and my weight. I’ve never had good body image - in high school, as a size 5, I felt fat and ugly. But everyone has been wonderful and nice and I feel so beautiful having my pic taken - it restores a little of my faith in people. Love the blog, btw - I’m a longtime reader/lurker!

Those weight charts are messed up and must have been developed in developing nations. I’m 5′10″ 170 lbs and carry some muscle, obviously, not a whole lot, from working out. The charts tell me that I’m borderline overweight when I’m nthing of the sort. I look fit, but by no means would I be described as particularly muscular.
If you eat right and get your exercise, you’ll be at the weight that nature intends for you.

Over the past couple of years a few lovers have told me that they have never been with a big girl before. At the time I was either a size 10 or 12. I remember thinking, “What the fuck is wrong with you?” But I could also say, what the fuck is wrong with me for caring.

Redheadedcyclone: You ARE truly a BBW. You are absolutely beautiful and you always have been! On top of being beautiful, you’re crazy smart and undeniably compassionate. All really important qualities in a person.
I miss you guys, by the way — congratulations on your new house!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is some total nonsense but I’ve had similar comments before. Dudes contact me on shitty dating sites, I reject them, they say “Whatever, you’re fat anyway.” Um, they are the one that wanted to date the fat chick just moments ago!

Hello, Catalina:
Back in the day, when I called myself “adam,” I posted the above video (as a link to the site it originated from). My post dealt with the same issue, and I believe that it’s as important to get across today as it was back then.
Women should be proud & happy with themselves, just as they are. No one should have to live up to any “standard,” or “ideal” of what culture defines as “beauty.”
Men do not need to be buff & look like Johnny Depp in order to be appealing to a woman. It is a self-esteem crusher. We can admire the beauty (in the eye of the beholder) in many ways: Sometimes, a smile, a light in the eyes, and a meshing of fellow feelings of likes & dislikes (simpatico) is all that is necessary to engage in a lifetime of love.
This post was rightly chosen as Editor’s Pick, because you’ve managed to hit the nail on the head.
Blessings to you,
and the beauty of you,
~x~Will

Grr, how annoying. A size 8 is a healthy size for a woman! I’ve seen that video before-it’s a good one. I wish more normal looking women would be put on magazine covers and billboards.
