Catalina loves Interviews (Satine Phoenix)

I’m lucky enough to call Satine Phoenix a friend of mine. She’s physical perfection, yet she is human, just like the rest of us. It’s not difficult to find a pretty face, but it is unique when that pretty face comes with a giant brain, enormous artistic talent, and an amazing knack for making people feel at ease. Her open and intimate blogs on Myspace teeter between touching and hilarious. I often find myself connecting with her on a deep level through her blogs.

Aside from being my friend, she Satine is a model, an actress, a pornstarslutkitty, an artist, a practitioner of tantra, and a very smart woman. She looks great in a corset, latex, rope, and nothing.

1. So the other day on Myspace your status said, “Being followed by a WE film crew”… so what’s that all about?
The WE Channel is doing a segment on me for Secret Lives of Women - Sex Addicts. It should air in September. Oh… I’m so nervous.

2. What is your favorite cereal?
Kellogg’s Smart Start or the Australian Low Fat Muesli

3. Who are your artistic influences? How would you describe your visual art? What was the first piece of art you acquired as an adult?
I dont like to study other people’s art very much because it tends to sink into what I create. I like to paint and draw what comes out of my head from what I learned at art college. BUT… what I have let sink in are stuff from my childhood that I couldnt help but fall for: Gil Bruvel, Boris Vallejo, Franzetta, Ralph Bakshi, Sam Keiths’s the Maxx, Peter Chung’s Aeon Flux… or anything from the old MTV “Liquid Television” line up. Brothers Quay, Most claymation films… He-man… she-ra… gummy bears… Flinstones…

4. Which character do you identify with on Futurama?
past her Eye… Lela for sure!! She kicks ass, can hold her own. Smart, Sexy, Tough, has problems with getting men to looklol… And is the Captain of the ship! Also.. wears lesbian combat boots just like me :) (though she is not a lesbian, but I’m pretty sure she’s bi like me)

5. I know you’re a practitioners of Tantra - do you bring that awareness with you to work?
I do. I try to connect with everyone i have sex with. Mostly that’s at work and you can tell. The look in the eye, the breathing.. the extra touch. I enjoy all the sex I have so I really try to bring a piece of me into the scenes I do. The men and women seem to really like it as well… though I’ve been getting comments like: “man, you don’t look like you liked it very much”. That’s just my O face. I have an angry O face :) The honest truth is that especially if it was big and black, which is where the comments came from, I really liked it.

6. You’ve said you’re focusing on mainstream acting lately - how’s that going?
It’s going. I help friends out with music videos and photos and student projects. It’s not as much as I’m doing bondage or porn. But I’m sure I’ll find a balance soon enough. No rush. I’ve got my whole life ahead of me :)

7. As part of your new outlook, have you started seeing yourself as an example/role model for people who may be struggling with their own addiction issues?
Role Model? Eh, Not really role model, but I do hope to show other people out there that it may not always be easy and that lots of other people from all walks of life are going through tough times throughout their lives. And that its a constant fight, not something that you just deal with once in your life, but throughout your entire life, however long that is. AND that its ok to have to go over and over it. No one is perfect. We’re all human and most of us need to admit that we need assistance once in a while, and its ok to be one of those people. Just because some of us are in the public eye or whatever, doesn’t mean that we’re different from anyone. We’re normal people too… just live life a bit differently, but have the same issues as everyone else. Such is life.

8. Do you have friends in the business that have successfully navigated through addiction to recovery and have been role models to you?
Yes, and though I will not name their names, they know who they are, and I love them very much. Watching them go through what they went through inspires me to get through my own ordeals. Their strength helps feed my strength and I admire them for their dedication to themselves. I hope to be their strength as well when I can. Its important to have a very solid core group of friends. Friends who won’t judge you or throw you away when you don’t meet their needs. Becoming a hermit, and being in dark times, you really find out who your friends are. To those people.. I love you… but you know that. :)

9. How is the new workout schedule going? Are you still in the gym every day?
Yes. even if I don’t work out really hard.. i still at least go and do 30 mins. of cardio, but I’m on day 6 now and my body feels tighter than it did last week. I’m a size 8 now. On my way back down to the 3/4 I was last year. Its not that hard, it just takes time. Luckily I’m taking a lot of yoga and core/bosu classes. That helps with patience.. and flexibility! :)

10. Which photographers have you been working with recently? Are there any photographers that you haven’t yet shot with, but would like to?
There are tons of photographers that i haven’t worked with yet. The last person I worked with was Chad Michael Ward and I have a shoot lined up with Joseph From ArtisanImagery.com, two of my handful of all time favorite photographers. People who create art for the sake of art really inspire me. Doing shoots for glamour or porn .. it’s the same pose, different photographer, different day.. but art.. oh art.. creating something amazing with another artist - it’s absolutely satisfying.

11. What is it like to shoot with Christine Kessler and Ken Marcus? I’m huge fans of theirs!
Its great fun working with both!! We’re all perverted so you never know what you’re going to do till you do it.

12. What are your current art projects? Do you sell your art or do it just for yourself?
I am working on a series of bondage fantasy creatures & a big painting about the combination of science & nature and what its creating today… told in the form of naked ladies :) (because that’s what i draw. Women. Lots and lots of women. :) I do commissions for other people, I’m working on 2 right now, and story boarding an animation project…along with my own comics.

13. When are you coming to visit us?
Soon :)

14. Where is one place you haven’t yet traveled, but you want to, and why?
I want to go everywhere i haven’t been… because i want to see the entire world!!! Europe to see the old. Antarctica to see the really really old. Siberia to see the cold. South America to see the ancient. Africa to see the vast. WAAAY up north to see the magic. The Galapagos to see the endangered. And yet there are many places other than that I want to go to.

Thank you, Satine, for answering all of my nosy questions! It’s great to see what you’re up to. Keep us updated, please!
